Muscles, fascia, and soft tissues often hold onto tension, stress, or micro-trauma more than we realize. At Northwest Chiropractic in Olympia, our massage therapy is not just “nice to have” — it’s an essential piece of care that supports alignment, speeds healing, and helps you feel lighter and more capable in your body. Around here, we often see tightness build up from simple things — time in the garden, weekend hikes, or long drives — the kinds of everyday movement that keep you active but can leave muscles needing recovery.
What Is Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage involves targeted, hands-on work on muscles, connective tissue, and fascia. Unlike a spa massage, our approach is goal-oriented: to improve circulation, reduce stiffness, release tightness, and support the body’s repair process.
When Massage Helps
Massage can benefit many scenarios, particularly when coordinated with chiropractic care:
-
Post-adjustment recovery — helping tissues adapt more comfortably
-
Chronic tension in back, neck, shoulders, or limbs
-
Trigger points, muscle knots, and deep tissue tightness
-
Overuse or repetitive stress symptoms
-
Restricted mobility and stiffness
-
General wellness, stress reduction, and recovery support
How We Evaluate & Provide Care
Before your session, we’ll talk about where you feel tension or pain and how it affects your movement and daily life. The therapist assesses tissue quality, muscle tone, and structural imbalances. Then, your session is adapted to your needs — more gentle, deeper, or focused as required.
Some modalities we use include:
-
Swedish / relaxation massage
-
Deep tissue or trigger point release
-
Myofascial release
-
Stretch-assisted techniques
-
Pre-adjustment warm-up massage
Every session ties back to your overall care plan, so massage doesn’t work alone — it amplifies your progress.
What You Can Expect
Many people feel greater ease, looseness, and reduced tension immediately afterward. Improvements in range of motion and pain may become evident over a few sessions. For chronic issues, a series of treatments typically yields better results. We monitor how you respond and adjust techniques, pressure, and frequency accordingly.
When to Be Cautious
Massage is safe for most people, but we proceed with caution in certain cases:
-
Open wounds, skin conditions, or recent surgery
-
Deep vein thrombosis, circulatory disorders, or significant swelling
-
Unexpected fever, infections, or systemic illness
-
Recent fractures, unstable spinal conditions, or acute injuries
In those circumstances, we’ll collaborate with medical providers or modify techniques as necessary.
